American Made

“American Made” reveals the sensational outcome of Gilden’s artistic catharsis, and the transformation of his street photography into documentary portrait photography. He complements the “American Made” series with details, half-portraits, still lifes and food photography. With this issue of the S Magazine, Magnum photographer Bruce Gilden continues developing his reportage project about the USA, where he questions the reality of the USA today, and what has happened to the great American Dream.

The S Magazine No. 7 is a revolutionary showcase of the precision and emotions in Gilden’s work, edited by the reportage photographer himself and with texts by his wife, Sophie Gilden. In the magazine, Sophie writes about his artistic development. In an interview she does with him, he reveals the idea behind the “American Made” series made possible by the Leica S, how the camera opened up new dimensions for him, and why less distance from his motifs is more than just a stylistic tool.
